Royals Top Lady Fleet 75 to 64

Due West, SC - The Lady Fleet ended their regular season losing at home to the Royals of Queens University 75 to 64.  With the loss, the Fleet finish the regular season 11-15 overall and 10-12 conference.  Queens University improves to 16 to 11 overall and 15-7 conference.

 

The Fleet full-court defense caused problems for the Royals in the first half.  The Fleet scored 18 points off of 16 Royal turnovers and led at the half 38 to 29.  In the second half, the Royals improved their defensive intensity and ball control.  Compared to the first half, the Royals only turned the ball over 6 times for 5 Fleet points.  In addition, the Royals tightened their defense holding the Fleet to just 22.6% (7 of 31) shooting.  On the day, the Fleet shot a feeble 29.7% to the Royals 44.4%.

 

Leading the Fleet was Porsha Morgan with a game-high 16 points.  Audrey Timmerman contributed 14 points.  Elizabeth Tatum led the Fleet on the boards with 6 rebounds.  The Royals had six players finish in double-figures.  The Royals were led by Ashley McGuirt with 14 points, Dyonna Battle 12 points, Jazmine Edwards 11 points, and Shakaria Hamlin, Cecilia Tchangoue, and Marissa Hudley with 10 points each.  Dyonna Battle also grabbed a game-high 8 rebounds for the Royals.

 

The Fleet secured the 8th seed in the Conference Carolinas postseason tournament and play at first seed Barton College on Monday at 7 p.m.

Queens must wait on the outcome of other Conference Carolinas games later today to learn their seeding and pairing.

 

After the game, Erskine recognized the contributions of their four senior players, Lauren Henderson, Octavia Johnson, Mary Ann Langford, and Audrey Timmerman.  After only winning 9 games their first two years, these four seniors won 28 games the last two years and finish with a 37-72 overall record.
