Due West, SC- Erskine women's lacrosse fell to 0-3 overall Wednesday evening as they dropped their home opener to Conference Carolinas opponent Queen's University of Charlotte 2-20. Despite the tough loss, the Fleet, who are only in their second season of play, are showing great improvements from last year's inaugural season.
The Lady Fleet held a 17-12 ground ball advantage over the visiting Royals, and sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlyn Overley recorded an impressive 12 saves on the evening. But where the Fleet struggled was on the offensive end of the field where they were out-shot 38-10 Wednesday night. Erskine still walked off the field with heads high knowing that a good offense will come in time.
The sophomore duo of Alesia Jerrells and Lisa Kmonicek put up a goal apiece both of which came in the first half.
Queens had ten different players put the ball in the back of the net Wednesday. Britt Barnwell led all scorers with 6 goals. Kristi Kemp and Enna Saffos each recorded 3 goals.
Erskine will return to play this Saturday as they travel to Belmont, NC to take on conference foe Belmont Abbey. Game time is set for 3:00 PM.
