Gaffney, SC – Erskine lost on the road to a red-hot Limestone College 55 to 45. Limestone currently holds a nine game win steak. The Fleet hoped to pull the upset tonight to secure a spot in the conference postseason tournament next week. With the loss, the Fleet (11-15 overall, 8-11 conference) remain in a three-way tie for seventh place with Coker College and Belmont-Abbey College while #5 regionally-ranked Limestone (19-7 overall, 13-6 conference) is in a three-way tie for second place with Anderson and Pfeiffer. The top eight teams advance to the conference tournament.
Brandon Wright led the Fleet with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Brandon Wright also made his 400th career 3-point basket, becoming just the 22nd player in NCAA basketball history to make 400 or more 3-point shots in a career. Jay Boulware also contributed 10 points.
Meanwhile the Saints got 21 points from Jarrell Douglass and Tyron Evans chipped in 11 points. Jarrell Douglass also led the Saints on the boards with 6 rebounds.
The Saints shot an impressive 50% from the floor tonight, including 6 of 14 (43%) from behind the arc. Erskine, on the other hand, failed to make a three-point shot in the second half and finished the game shooting 36%, including just 19% (3 of 16) from three-point range.
The Fleet host Queens University on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. A Fleet win secures a postseason spot in next week’s Conference Carolinas postseason tournament.
