Lady Fleet Win On The Road

Banner Elk, NC – The Lady Fleet overcame a sluggish start on the road to defeat the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College 81 to 72 in Conference Carolinas basketball action.  The Lady Fleet improve to 9-13 overall and 8-10 conference while the Bobcats drop to 4-17 overall and 4-13 conference.

 

The Lady Bobcats grabbed an early 18 to 9 on the Lady Fleet.  Colette Montgomery sparked the Lady Bobcats run scoring eight of her twenty points and assisting on another basket in the first five minutes.  Senior Audrey Timmerman initiated the Lady Fleet comeback with a steal and gave it to freshman Catherine Houston, who nailed a three-point basket.  With the momentum in their favor, the Lady Fleet went on a 13 to 6 run over the next ten minutes to tie the game at 24 a piece.   The Lady Fleet surrendered only three points over the last five minutes and took a 32 to 27 lead into halftime.

 

The Lady Bobcats kept the game close, drawing within two points at 43 to 41 midway through the second half.  Seniors Audrey Timmerman and Mary Ann Langford led the Fleet on a 14 to 2 run, giving Erskine a 57 to 43 lead.  The Lady Bobcats made it interesting by closing within four points with 1:30 remaining, but the Lady Fleet’s Porsha Morgan extended the Erskine lead back to nine by converting on all her free throws down the stretch.  The Lady Fleet won 81 to 72.

 

On the night, the Lady Bobcats outshot the Lady Fleet 47% to 38% from the floor.  However, the Lady Fleet had a huge advantage from the free throw line, making 24 of 34 (70.6%) compared the Lady Bobcats’ 11 of 16 (68.8%).

 

The Lady Fleet got an outstanding game from their all-conference backcourt.  Senior guard Audrey Timmerman scored 29 points, including 7 three-points baskets, while point guard Porsha Morgan earned a “double-double” with 15 points and 10 assists.  Freshman Taylor Stewart pulled down a game-high 8 rebounds for the Lady Fleet.  Lees-McRae was led by Colette Montgomery with 20 points.  Lauren Casey also had a “double-double” with 11 points and 10 assists.  She also pulled down a team-high 7 rebounds on the evening.

 

Erskine travels to Converse College this Saturday.  Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
