Anderson, SC – The Erskine women’s basketball team fell to rival Anderson University 73 to 64 at the Abney Athletic Center tonight. The Fleet drop to 0-3 while Anderson picks up their first win on the young season to improve to 1-2.
Erskine took an early five point lead on a 3-point basket by Elizabeth Tatum (Glennville, GA, Pinewood Christian Academy) at 17-12. At that point, Ashley Abed led Anderson on a 20-2 run, scoring 7 of her game-high 21 points, to give the Trojans a 32-19 advantage. The Fleet cut the Trojan lead in half by intermission, trailing 35-29.
Within the first five minutes of the second half, the Fleet regained the lead at 43-42 on another Tatum 3-point shot and pushed their lead to as many as nine points at 62-53 with just six minutes remaining on a 3-point bucket by senior Christine Phan (Savannah, GA, Windsor Forest High School). Unfortunately the Fleet managed only one more bucket as Anderson came from behind to win 73 to 64.
Junior Porsha Morgan (Columbus, GA, LaGrange Academy) led the Fleet with 17 points while Tatum contributed 11 points. Senior Neci Allen (North Augusta, SC, North Augusta High School) earned a “double-double” in the losing effort with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Fleet host Pfeiffer University next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
