Due West, SC – Trailing by eleven midway through the second half, the Lady Fleet went on a 20 to 8 run to take a 77 to 73 lead with just six minutes remaining against the visiting Saints of Limestone College. The last six minutes would see three lead changes and three ties with neither team having more than a two point lead. Audrey Timmerman (Aiken, SC/Aiken H.S.) would penetrate the lane for a nice lay up to give the Flying Fleet a one point edge at 87 to 86 with just 48 seconds remaining. Limestone’s three point shot from the corner would fall short and Erskine would hit three of their four free throws to win the game 90 to 86.
For the game, the Fleet out shot the Saints 55% to 46% but the Saints were able to keep it close on their 42 to 30 rebound advantage by scoring 14 2nd chance points. Erskine was lead by their backcourt all-conference tandem of Audrey Timmerman and Porsha Morgan (Columbus, GA/LaGrange Academy). Sophomore point guard Porsha Morgan had 24 points and 8 assists while fellow guard Audrey Timmerman had 20 points. Mary Ann Langford (LaGrange, GA/LaGrange Academy) and Elizabeth Tatum (Glennville, GA/Pinewood Christian Academy) both had 15 points and pulled down 8 and 7 rebounds respectively. The Saints were lead by Tia Williams and Maria Young with 15 points each.
With the win, Erskine improves to 3-4 (2-1) while Limestone slips to 3-5 (1-2). The Flying Fleet play their 2nd game of their 3-game home stand when Lees-McRae College visits Belk Arena this Thursday. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
