Timmerman leads Fleet past Coker

Due West, SC – Audrey Timmerman (Aiken, SC/Aiken H.S.) busted out of a three game shooting slump to lead the Flying Fleet past the Coker College Cobras 74 to 63.  The senior all-conference guard came off the bench to score a game-high 28 points on 10 of 18 shooting.  She also had game-high 5 assists and 5 steals.  The win snapped a three game losing skid for the Flying Fleet (7-9 overall, 6-6 conference).

In the first half, Coker College slowed the game pace and used their size advantage, grabbing 31 first half rebounds to Erskine’s 15, to keep the game close despite Audrey Timmerman hitting 6 of 12 shots, including 4 of 8 from three-point range.  At halftime, Erskine held a slim three point lead at 34 to 31.

Erskine opened the second half stretching their lead to eight points behind another Timmerman three-pointer.  The Lady Cobras would close to within two points before Audrey Timmerman nailed back-to-back three point shots to give Erskine a six point lead at 53 to 47.  Erskine’s full-court press started to pay dividends as Erskine lengthened their lead to thirteen points off Coker turnovers.

Erskine shot an impressive 47% on the evening and converted 10 of 21 three-point shots.  Erskine lost the rebound battle 27 to 46 but was able to hold Coker to just 12 2nd chance points.  Coker turned the ball over 25 times to Erskine’s 16.

In addition to Timmerman’s 28 points, Porsha Morgan also chipped in 17 points.  Elizabeth Tatum and Mary Ann Langford led the Fleet on the boards with 5 each.  The Lady Cobras were led by Kiesha Beavers’ “double-double” of 19 points and 12 rebounds.  Henna Koponen also earned a “double-double” with 12 points and 12 rebounds while Lotta Aaltonen scored 17 points.

Following the game, Audrey Timmerman was recognized for setting a new Erskine College and Conference Carolinas record for most three-point baskets made in a career.  Audrey Timmerman now has 311 career three-pointers and is one of only 20 NCAA Division II women’s basketball players to eclipse the 300 mark.

The Lady Fleet are on the road this weekend as they travel to Laurinburg, North Carolina, to play Saint Andrews Presbyterian College.  Tip off is set for 2 p.m.
