Falcons Coast By Fleet

Misenheimer, NC- Erskine men’s basketball had their hands full with Conference Carolinas opponent Pfeiffer University Saturday evening.  The Falcons proved to be very comfortable shooting the ball on their home court as they drained twenty three-point baskets and cruised past the Fleet 84-52.  After Saturday’s loss, Erskine fell to 6-9 overall and 3-6 in conference play.  Pfeiffer improved to 10-5 and 6-3.

Similar to the women’s game, the Fleet struggled to find the bottom of the net.  Erskine hit 20/49 from the field, but could not hit from behind the three-point arc, only converting on 3/16.  Even Erskine sharpshooter Brandon Wright had trouble putting points on the board.  Wright, who is averaging over 17 points on the season, only hit 4/13 FG and 2/10 3-pt for 12 points Saturday.  The only other Erskine player to reach double figures was Jay Boulware with 11 points.  Erskine also suffered a 30-44 rebounding disadvantage.

Pfeiffer jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back.  James Morse led the Falcons to a 42-24 first half advantage and was the leading scorer for the game with 20 points.  Morse also pulled down 6 rebounds for Pfeiffer.  The Falcon bench played a huge role in Saturday’s victory as they contributed over half of the teams points and outscored the Erskine bench 44-20.  Three Pfeiffer players came off the bench to score double figures.  Chris woods hit 5/7 from the field for 13 points while James Crowder and Jeff Pettiway each contributed 12 points of their own.

Erskine will bounce back and take on conference foe Queens University Monday evening in Charlotte, NC.  Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
