Due West, SC – Erskine dropped their season opener 63 to 53 to Coker College Monday evening. Through the first half, neither team was willing to concede an easy basket. At half, the game was knotted 27 to 27. The Cobras sprinted out on a 12 to 0 to start the second half. Erskine was able to cut the lead to just three points with just under two minutes remaining, but Coker hit a basket forcing the Fleet to foul. Coker hit their last five free throws to lengthen their lead out to 10 points.
Leading the Fleet on the evening was Brandon Wright with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Marko Latinovic was the only other Fleet member to reach double-digits with 12 points. The Cobras were lead by Mason Ambler’s 21 points and 11 rebounds.
The Fleet play Brevard College next Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in Time-Warner Arena, home of the Charlotte Bobcats.
