HOW IT HAPPENED
The Fleet started the match on the attack with
Hannah DeVincent firing three shots on goal in the opening four minutes.
Chloe Brown also tested the Shorter goalkeeper in the 8th minute and the Fleet had forced five saves in the opening stages of the first half but were held off the board. However, Shorter grew into the match toward the end of the first half and their pressure ended in a 41st-minute goal from the spot, putting Erskine behind at the break. Down to just ten players in the second half, the Fleet continued to push and recorded a pair of shots on target but were unable to beat the Hawks' goalkeeper.
Valentina Santana made a season-high nine saves in between the sticks for the Fleet.
WHAT'S NEXT?
A tall home test awaits the Fleet on Tuesday when Young Harris College (2-2, 1-0 CC) comes to town for a 2 p.m. kickoff. The Mountain Lions were picked fourth in the Conference Carolinas preseason poll and are the reigning Southwest Division champions in the conference.
