Erskine Baseball | Fleet capture road series win at Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Erskine College baseball team (7-13, 5-4 CC) and Emmanuel University (7-11, 4-8 CC) split a doubleheader to conclude their weekend series at Tommy Carey Field on Saturday.

Chase Grube shined on the mound in the first game of the day to help lead the Fleet to a 6-3 win, and although Erskine could not hold on down the stretch in the series finale, the Fleet still walked away with a big road Conference Carolinas series win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Erskine 6-3 Emmanuel (Final / 7 innings)

The game stayed scoreless until the third inning when a two-run double from Pierce Radke gave the Fleet a 2-0 lead. Emmanuel responded with a two-run double of its own in the bottom half, but starting pitcher Chase Grube was excellent outside of that, tossing six quality innings and posting a season-high 10 strikeouts. Grube kept the game tied until the Fleet offense broke through in the sixth, as a Lions error allowed Jacob Platt and Jacob Lott to score to regain the lead. A few batters later, Noah Hill provided some insurance with a two-run double to secure a series win for the Fleet.

Game 2: Emmanuel 16-12 Erskine
Hoping for a road sweep, the Fleet came out of the gates firing on all levels, with Adrian Rolon, Jack Luthren, and Gio Lopez each contributing to a four-run first inning. In the third inning, Stephen Kriner delivered an RBI double, along with runs batted in by Lopez and Drew Potts, and in the next frame, Pierce Radke and Adrian Rolon crossed the plate, opening up a sizeable 10-2 lead for the Fleet. However, the hosts responded in a big way, including a nine-run fifth to storm in front and shock the Fleet in the series finale.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine returns to Due West to start a four-game home stand with a non-conference tilt against Georgia College (5-12, 4-5 PBC) on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
