HOW IT HAPPENED
After the Fleet offense went quietly in the first inning, Erskine came roaring to life in the second. Newcomer
Ricky Dober got it started with a three-run blast, his first home run in an Erskine uniform, and a few batters later, a
Jacob Platt sacrifice fly pushed the Fleet's lead to 4-1.
Pierce Radke's first big fly of the season regained Erskine's three-run advantage after an Augusta home run, giving the Fleet a 5-2 lead. The hosts got within a run in the bottom of the third, but a Platt infield single in the fourth scored
Elliott Sanders in the next frame.
Mason McManus' made it three straight games with a run-scoring hit to open the season as his fifth inning single extended Erskine's lead to 7-5. However, the next two frames belonged to the Jaguars, who slugged a pair of homers to put the Fleet in a 10-7 deficit after seven innings. Platt delivered again in the eighth, a two-run blast over the right field fence to get Erskine within a run and Dober doubled in the ninth to get the tying run in scoring position but Erskine could not draw level, dropping a high-scoring affair to begin their road trip this week.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine continues its trek south to begin its annual weekend trip to Florida on Thursday with a battle at Lynn University (1-3) at 2 p.m.
