HOW IT HAPPENED
The Fleet dug themselves into a rather deep early hole to open their Florida road trip, but started their ascent back into the game in the fourth inning.
Mason McManus continued his outstanding start to the season at the plate with a sacrifice fly to get Erskine on the board and then
Adrian Rolon launched a three-run home run to cut the Fleet's deficit in half. However, Lynn answered back in the bottom half and added three more runs in the sixth, handing the Fleet a double-digit deficit. But, Erskine refused to go down without a fight, and
Jalyn Tidwell's two-run single started a big seventh inning for the Fleet.
Elliott Sanders and
Danny Villafane each worked bases-loaded walks in between a
Gio Lopez RBI single to make it 14-9 at the stretch. In the eighth inning,
Jack Luthren hit his first collegiate big fly, a two-run blast before McManus followed with a two-run home run of his own, as the Fleet were within two. But, Erskine was unable to get any closer in their final at-bat, as the early deficit proved too much for the Fleet to overcome.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine visits Nova Southeastern University (1-2) on Friday at 6 p.m. in the second game of its Florida weekend road trip.
