HOW IT HAPPENED
Taking on the Peach Belt Conference leaders on the road on Tuesday night, the game remained scoreless through the first three innings behind a solid start from pitcher
Eli Botelle. In the fourth inning,
Jorge Pascual opend the scoring with a solo home run, his ninth of the season, and a few batters later, a Bobcats error allowed
Pierce Radke to score run number two for the Fleet. But, GCSU responded in the bottom half with a five-run inning of its own. Trailing 5-2 heading into the sixth inning, the Fleet clawed back, starting with a two-run single from the red-hot Josean Sanchez to get Erskine back within a run. Then,
Jude Littrell added an RBI groundout that scored
Noah Hill and tied the game at 5. However, Georgia College had the instant response again, this time with a pair of runs in the bottom half to retake the lead. In the eighth inning,
Dylan Wanat launched a solo home run to cut the Fleet's deficit in half, and Erskine got the tying run in scoring position in the ninth, but were unable to bring him in as Erskine dropped another one-run heartbreaker.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine comes back home this weekend for a conference series against Chowan University (5-24, 3-18 CC) that begins on Friday with a doubleheader at noon.
