HOW IT HAPPENED
A
Jude Littrell sacrifice fly gave the Fleet a 1-0 in the top of the first, but Barton answered with a run of its own in the bottom half. After the Bulldogs took their first lead in the second inning,
Dylan Wanat had the answer with an RBI groundout in the third to tie the game at 2. The hosts went back in front in the fourth but not for long, thanks to a
Mason McManus solo home run and a two-run single from Littrell in the fifth inning, putting Erskine back on top, 5-4. Barton answered with runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but Josean Sanchez launched his second big fly of the season, a game-tying solo blast in the seventh to tie the game at 6 at the stretch. However, Barton regained its lead in the bottom half. Trailing by a run in the ninth, Erskine took advantage of a Bulldogs error that allowed
Matt Layton to score the tying run. The Fleet had the go-ahead run in scoring position but could not capitalize, sending the game to extras.
Pierce Radke cranked a home run over the left center field fence in the top of the 10th, giving Erskine an 8-7 lead, but a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom half allowed the hosts to tie the game, sending things to the 11th, where the Bulldogs walked it off, as the Fleet suffered a heartbreaking loss to begin the weekend.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine and Barton finish the series with a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
