Erskine Baseball | Fleet split doubleheader with Chowan

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Erskine College baseball team (18-24, 7-17 CC) split a doubleheader against Chowan University (6-26, 4-20 CC) at Grier Field on Saturday afternoon to finish a three-game series over the weekend.

Erskine rallied back from a four-run deficit in the opener of the day, but were held in check offensively in the series finale.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Erskine 8-5 Chowan

After Chowan scored four times in the first inning, Erskine began its work on the comeback trail. RBIs from Jorge Pascual and Jude Littrell in the third inning cut the deficit in half, 4-2. Then, in the fourth inning, Noah Hill launched a solo home run and a Chowan error later in the frame allowed two runs to score, giving the Fleet their first lead at 5-4. Chowan tied the game with a solo home run in the fifth, but Dylan Wanat's two-run single in the sixth regained Erskine's lead and Kyle Knoll came on out of the bullpen to record the final five outs of the game in convincing fashion to seal the win.

Game 2: Chowan 6-1 Erskine
In the series finale, both teams were held off the scoreboard until the fourth inning when Chowan scored twice to take the lead. Matt Layton's sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the fourth got Erskine on the board, but the Fleet's offense was held in check throughout Game 3 as Erskine was unable to cap off the weekend with a sweep.

THE PLAYER
Junior infielder Jacob Platt was 2-for-3 in the first game of the day with a pair of runs and added a hit in the series finale as he gave the Fleet some production from the bottom part of the lineup on Saturday.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine welcomes in the surprise team in Conference Carolinas this year, Francis Marion University (32-11, 19-8 CC), on Tuesday at 3 p.m. for a unique non-conference matchup between the teams.
