Erskine Softball | Rabon helps Fleet split doubleheader against Emmanuel

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Erskine College softball team (8-30, 4-16 CC) split a doubleheader against Emmanuel University (19-27, 12-13 CC) at the Erskine Softball Complex on Saturday afternoon.

Senior catcher Peyton Rabon launched a pair of home runs in the opener as the Fleet rallied back from an early four-run deficit to win Game 1 of the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Erskine 8-6 Emmanuel
In the Fleet's home conference finale, it was the visiting Lions who struck first, posting a four-spot in the top of the first inning. But, Erskine answered with a two-run home run from Peyton Rabon in the bottom half to cut the deficit to two. Emmanuel made it a 5-2 game in the second inning, but it was the Fleet's turn to post a crooked number in the third. After a two-run single from Kennedy Crouch got the Fleet within a run, Amber Clark delivered a go-ahead two-RBI double to put Erskine in front for the first time today, 6-5. That scoreline remained until Rabon brought the fireworks again, launching a solo home run for her second big fly of the game to make it 7-5. The Lions scored in the top of the sixth, but it was canceled out by a Savannah Koester RBI single. Starting pitcher Payton Cox then set down the side in order in the seventh to finish an 8-6 victory for the Fleet.

Game 2: Emmanuel 3-1 Erskine
In the back half of the doubleheader, it took until the third inning for the game's first run, which came courtesy of an RBI single from Peyton Rabon that scored Savannah Koester to give Erskine a lead. But, the Fleet's offense was held in check the rest of the game and Emmanuel hit a two-run home run in the fourth to go in front before adding a third run in the next inning as Erskine came up short in Game 2.

Erskine visits Shorter University (11-28, 8-12 CC) for another divisional doubleheader on Monday at 3 p.m.
