HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Southern Wesleyan 8-0 Erskine (Final / 5Â innings)
Back on the road for the first time over two weeks, Erskine started slowly, allowing four runs to SWU in the opening inning. The hosts added a run in both the second and third innings and then scored twice more in the fourth, while the Fleet offense struggled throughout the opener.
Game 2: Southern Wesleyan 4-3 Erskine
In the back half of the doubleheader, the Fleet's offense came to life early as
Kennedy Crouch and
Brooke Patterson each delivered RBI singles in the first inning to give Erskine an early 2-0 lead. SWU got on the board in the second inning, but starting pitcher
Erin Redmond preserved the Fleet's lead through the first innings. In the fifth,
Gabby Burroughs' RBI single regained the Fleet's two-run advantage at 3-1, but the hosts scored twice in the bottom half to tie the game. Erskine was unable to retake its lead in its next two trips to the plate, and SWU scored in the bottom of the seventh, as the Fleet were handed a heartbreaking loss in Game 2.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine returns home this weekend for a doubleheader against another divisional opponent, Emmanuel University (17-24, 10-10 CC), on Saturday at 1 p.m.
