HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: North Greenville 11-2 Erskine
Taking on the reigning regular-season champions in Conference Carolinas this past weekend, it was the hosts who opened the scoring with three run-scoring hits in the second inning. NGU added another run in the third and then scored five more runs in the fouth to put the Fleet in a sizeable hole. Erskine got on the board in the eighth with a two-run triple from
Dylan Wanat, but the deficit was too much for the Fleet to overcome in the series opener.
Game 2: North Greenville 5-3 Erskine (Final / 7 innings)
In the doubleheader on Saturday to finish the series, it was Erskine who opened the scoring right out of the gates, thanks to a sacrifice fly from
Dylan Wanat that scored
Jude Littrell to give Erskine an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. But, the Trailblazers hit a three-run home run in the bottom half of the first to go in front. That 3-1 scoreline remained the same until the fifth inning when Josean Sanchez's sacrifice fly scored
Mason McManus and got Erskine within a run. However, NGU answered with a two-run double in the bottom half of the inning.
Josh Hungler hit an RBI double in the next frame to cut the deficit to 5-3, but Erskine was unable to get any closer.
Game 3: North Greenville 13-5 Erskine
In the series finale, the Fleet again opened the scoring, this time via a solo home run from
Dylan Wanat in the top of the second inning. But, NGU posted a four-run bottom half of the second and added two more runs in the third, putting Erskine in a 6-1 hole. In the sixth,
Jorge Pascual launched a three-run blast to get the Fleet back within striking distance at 6-4, but again the hosts responded with two runs in the bottom half, before adding a four-spot in the seventh, as the Fleet offense could not keep up in the final few innings.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine returns home briefly for a mid-week contest against Limestone University (17-18, 11-10 SAC) on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Fleet and Saints played this past mid-week in Gaffney, with Erskine rallying for an 11-8 win.
