Erskine Baseball | Ninth-inning rally leads Fleet past Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Erskine College baseball team (16-15, 5-10 CC) defeated Limestone University (14-18, 8-10 SAC) by a score of 11-8 at Founders FCU Stadium on Tuesday evening.

After a Pierce Radke grand slam capped a five-run third inning to give the Fleet an early advantage, Erskine got a game-winning sacrifice fly from JT Yaccarino as part of a four-run ninth inning to earn a road victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Starting a four-game road trip this week, Erskine turned to Nick Fraginals to take the mound and he began his outing with a pair of zeroes in the first two innings. In the third inning, a Jude Littrell double was sandwiched between a pair of hit batsmen as the Fleet loaded the bases for Dylan Wanat. Wanat worked a walk to score Josean Sanchez for the game's first run. Moments later, Pierce Radke launched a grand slam to break open a 5-0 lead for Erskine. However, Limestone responded in the middle innings, including a six-spot in the fourth to take its first lead. Trailing 7-5 after six innings, Erskine's offense came back to life in the final frames, as Quinn Allen delivered a clutch two-out, two-RBI double in the seventh to tie the game. Chris Giordano and Kyle Knoll worked scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth, respectively, sending the game to the ninth tied at 7. Wanat led off the inning by drawing another walk, and then Radke and Allen each reached to load the bases with nobody out. JT Yaccarino lofted a fly ball to center field, scoring Wanat to put the Fleet back in front. After a double steal from Radke and Allen, Elliot Sanders tallied an RBI before Josean Sanchez's two-run single gave the Fleet some insurance, 11-7, heading into the bottom of the ninth. The Saints didn't go quietly, bringing the tying run to the plate, but Knoll induced a foulout to seal an 11-8 win for the Fleet.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine goes back on the road for a difficult three-game series at No. 3 North Greenville University (25-8, 11-7 CC), starting Friday at 3:30 p.m.
