HOW IT HAPPENED
After pitching stole the show in the doubleheader yesterday, the Fleet offense came roaring to life in the series finale. And it started early as Erskine put up a remarkable 11 runs in the second inning, with nine of those runs coming with two outs. The inning started with an opposite-field blast from
Jorge Pascual to open the scoring.
Noah Hill and
Jude Littrell each had run-scoring hits later in the inning, as Erskine took advantage of some Lions' errors before Pascual came to the plate again. This time, the senior first baseman dug in with runners on the corners, but his outcome was the same, a rocket over the right field wall for his second big fly of the inning, making it an 8-0 lead for the Fleet.
Dylan Wanat added a two-run single before
Matt Layton scored on a balk to put the finishing touches on an 11-run inning for the Fleet. In the fifth,
JT Yaccarino crushed a pinch-hit grand slam as he continued his torrid stretch at home over the past few weeks, and Wanat's two-run blast in the eighth capped a 19-run outburst from the Erskine offense. On the mound, starting pitcher
Rob Willis tossed four innings without allowing a hit, before giving way to the bullpen. A combined effort from
Nick Fraginals,
Larson McMaster,
Gene Blackmon,
Christian Maige, and Jessy Camire helped the Fleet cruise through the final five innings to a convincing win.
THE PLAYER
Senior first baseman
Jorge Pascual went 2-for-2 with a pair of home runs and 4 RBIs in the second inning alone, leading the Fleet's offense to a season-high 19 runs.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine and Georgian Court wrap up their weekend series on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grier Field.
