HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Erskine 12-8 Claflin (Final / 7 innings)
On the road for a mid-week doubleheader, Erskine got its first two runs of the day via free passes as
Mason McManus was hit by a pitch and
Noah Hill drew a walk, each with the bases loaded to give Erskine a 2-0 lead. Claflin tied the game in the third, but the Fleet responded instantly in a big way.
Jude Littrell's RBI single opened the scoring in the frame and put Erskine back in front.
Elliot Sanders added an RBI groundout, and then bases-loaded walks from
Wilder Puertas,
Matt Layton, and McManus made it 8-2. Puertas eventually scored on a wild pitch to cap a seven-run inning for the Fleet. In the fifth, a balk and an RBI single from
Quinn Allen pushed the lead to 11-2, and a solid start from
Blake Holshouser, who went five innings and allowed just three hits, totaling nine strikeouts helped Erskine to a Game 1 win.
Game 2: Erskine 16-7 Claflin (Final / 7 innings)
In the back half of the doubleheader,
Elliot Sanders' bases-loaded walk scored Josean Sanchez to open the scoring in the very first inning.
Mason McManus and
Jacob Platt each added run-scoring hits in the third, giving the Fleet a 5-0 lead.
Dylan Wanat opened the scoring in the fourth with a solo home run, his seventh big fly of the year, and then Sanchez's bases-clearing double made it 11-0 Fleet after four innings. McManus and
Wilder Puertas each had RBIs in the sixth as well as a Claflin error allowing Wanat to score the 16th run of the game for Erskine. The Panthers made a push in the final two innings, but Erskine's lead was far too big as the Fleet clinched a doubleheader sweep away from home.
THE PLAYER
Junior infielder
Mason McManus only had two hits on the day, but totaled a team-high six RBIs, including a bases-clearing double early in Game 2.
