HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Southern Wesleyan 4-3 Erskine
Both teams were held scoreless through the first three innings to begin the weekend, until a
Josh Hungler sacrifice fly scored
Jorge Pascual to give Erskine a 1-0 lead in the fourth. However, SWU got on the board with a three-run fifth to go in front. The Fleet responded in the seventh with RBIs from Josean Sanchez and
Jude Littrell to tie the game. But, the Warriors won the game on a walk-off in the ninth, as the Fleet lost the series opener.
Game 2: Erskine 10-0 Southern Wesleyan (Final / 7 innings)
Back in action for Game 2 later on Friday, Erskine opened the scoring in the very first inning, as
Jorge Pascual came home on a passed ball.
Mason McManus added a two-run home run in the second to make it 3-0, and the Fleet's offense exploded in the final inning with a seven-run seventh to put the game beyond doubt. On the mound, Erskine got a gem from
Jared Guell, making his first start of the season, as the southpaw tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just five hits and totaling six strikeouts to stifle the Warriors throughout the afternoon.
Gene Blackmon cruised through the seventh to seal a shutout win for the Fleet in the back half of the doubleheader.
Game 3: Southern Wesleyan 21-9 Erskine
After a doubleheader split on Friday, Saturday's series finale turned into a rubber match, but the hosts started fast with a five-run first inning to jump out to an early lead. RBI singles from Josean Sanchez and
Dylan Wanat got the Fleet on the board in the third, but SWU's offense continued to deliver through the middle innings, putting the Fleet in a sizeable hole.
Elliot Sanders and
Jude Littrell had multiple run-scoring hits in the final four frames, but the Fleet were unable to keep up in the series finale.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine has the mid-week off before welcoming in Belmont Abbey College (16-10, 9-6 CC) for a three-game series, starting Friday at 2 p.m. at Grier Field.
