Erskine Football | Fleet fall just short in shootout at Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. – The Erskine College football team (1-7, 1-3 CC) was defeated by Ferrum College (3-5, 2-2 CC) by a score of 35-33 at W.B. Adams Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Ryan Killmer and Breylon Boyd combined for 273 passing yards, with each completing a pass of at least 48 yards.
  • Logan Coldren led the Fleet offense again, totaling 161 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground.
  • Rodshaun "Tonk" Dorsey returned to lead the Fleet's receiving core, catching 6 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown.
  • Four different Erskine defenders tallied a sack, while Skyler Vega and Damontia Duff each recovered a fumble.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kylan Simmons' one-yard touchdown run answered Ferrum's score to begin the game, and then Logan Coldren ran it in from two yards out as the Fleet responded again in the opening quarter to make it 14-12.
  • After the hosts regained its two-possession lead, Killmer found Dorsey for a 48-yard touchdown and then Dorsey converted the two-point attempt to get Erskine within a point.
  • The Panthers found the endzone at the end of the first half and again halfway through the second quarter, pushing the Fleet's deficit to 35-20.
  • Erskine rallied back behind two more rushing touchdowns from Coldren, putting the Fleet within two with still over 11 minutes remaining.
  • Jeremy Bland stepped up with a huge blocked field goal to keep the score 35-33 with 2:15 left, giving Erskine two chances at a game-winning drive but the Panthers defense did enough to hold off the Fleet's valiant comeback effort.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine returns home for the final time in the regular season to take on Chowan University (2-6, 1-3 CC) next Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
