Erskine Football | Fleet suffer heartbreaking loss to Chowan on Senior Day

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Erskine College football team (1-8, 1-4 CC) was defeated by Chowan University (3-6, 2-3 CC) by a score of 34-30 at Henry C. Oates Stadium at Dixie High School on Saturday afternoon.

Prior to the game, Erskine honored its 2025 football seniors, and at halftime, announced the 2025 Homecoming Court in an event-filled day.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Ryan Killmer went 19-for-25 with 210 passing yards and three touchdowns.
  • Logan Coldren crossed the century mark for the second consecutive week, recording 100 yards on 23 carries.
  • Three different Erskine receivers caught a touchdown.
  • Keaton Cooley led the Fleet defense with 9 sacks, while Taylor Hart's interception and Gary Maddox III's sack safety provided impact plays.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Fleet started fast, as Gary Maddox III recorded a sack safety on the first play from scrimmage and then Jo Burson caught a 35-yard touchdown to give Erskine a 9-0 lead less than five minutes into the game.
  • Chowan responded and took a 13-9 lead toward the end of the first half, but a well-executed two-minute drill from the Fleet offense ended in a 14-yard touchdown by Rodshaun "Tonk" Dorsey to put the Fleet in front, 16-13, at the half.
  • Kaydon Sauers' 1-yard touchdown run extended Erskine's lead to 23-13 late in the third quarter, but a pick-six and a Hawks touchdown put the visitors back on top, 27-23, early in the fourth quarter.
  • That scoreline remained the same until the Fleet's offense delivered in the clutch, a 5-yard touchdown catch from freshman Josh Brown for the go-ahead score inside the final minute. However, Chowan ran the ensuing kickoff back for a touchdown to stun the Fleet late.

Erskine finishes the regular season at Barton College (2-7, 2-3 CC) next Saturday at 6 p.m.
