HOW IT HAPPENED
In the final weekend of the regular season, Erskine hosted the back-to-back reigning Conference Carolinas regular season champions, North Greenville, and the Crusaders came flying out of the gates with an eight-run top of the first inning. The Fleet answered back in the bottom half with RBIs from David and
Daniel Hernandez and got a run-scoring single
Jorge Pascual in the second, but after NGU added five more runs in the third, Erskine's deficit was 13-4. Senior
Nick Pazos took over on the mound to start the fourth inning and did a tremendous job cooling off the red-hot Crusaders, pitching a career-high six innings without allowing a run.
Christian Rivera hit a two-run double in the sixth, but the early hole the Fleet fell into proved to be too much as Erskine was defeated by the third-ranked team in the country in the series opener.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine and North Greenville conclude conference play with a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at noon. Saturday will also be Senior Day for the Fleet, with festivities taking place for the 2024 senior class prior to the first game.
