HOW IT HAPPENED
In the 2024 conference opener, Erskine went toe-to-toe with league newcomer, Young Harris, to start a three-game series. And Friday's contest looked every part of a "Friday night pitchers' showdown" for most of the evening. The nationally-ranked Mountain Lions took a second-inning lead on a solo home run, but starter
Joe Alegre held YHC in check through the first five frames. Josean Sanchez led off the top of the sixth with a hit-by-pitch advanced on productive outs from
Wilmis Castro and
Christian Rivera, before Dale Francis Jr. delivered with a clutch, two-out RBI single to score Sanchez and tie the game at 1. However, Young Harris responded with three runs in the next half inning and added another in the eighth, while holding the Fleet offense in check the rest of the way to down Erskine, 5-1, in the series opener.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine and Young Harris wrap up their weekend tilt with a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at 1 p.m.
