HOW IT HAPPENED
Armando Becerra led off the afternoon with a walk, stole second and came around to score the game's first run on a Dale Francis, Jr. sacrifice fly. Mars Hill tied the game with a run in the bottom half,  but Becerra kickstarted the Fleet offense again in the third inning. The junior led off the frame reaching on an error and scored on an Ashby Smith RBI single, putting Erskine back on top, 2-1. The Lions answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half and took their first lead, but it was short-lived as a Tyler Smith RBI single tied the game at 3 in the top of the third. Daniel Vos took over on the mound out of the Fleet bullpen in the bottom half of the third and was outstanding, recording 10 outs while allowing just one hit. And the Fleet eventually took advantage as Becerra delivered again with a solo home run in the top of the sixth, giving Erskine a 4-3 lead. Parker Cassell followed Vos out of the bullpen, and stranded the bases loaded in the seventh, preserving Erskine's one-run lead. Cassell worked a scoreless eighth, and closer Johnny Hummel struck out the side in the ninth, picking up his fifth save of the year and sealing a Fleet win.

THE PLAYER
Armando Becerra had just one hit, but it was a huge, game-winning home run in the sixth inning. The Erskine leadoff hitter set the tone offensively in other ways, drawing two walks, stealing a base, and scoring three of the Fleet's four runs.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine stays on the road this weekend, and takes on the reigning Division II National Champions, No. 1 North Greenville University (17-2, 8-1 CC) in a three-game series, starting Friday at 3:30 p.m. The Fleet and Crusaders split a four-game series in Erskine's last trip to Tigerville back in 2021.
