2022 Flying Fleet Hall of Fame class announced as six new members inducted

DUE WEST, S.C. - The Erskine College Athletics Department has announced the Flying Fleet Hall of Fame Class of 2022. This year's class features six (6) new members who will be inducted during Erskine's Hall of Fame festivities on Saturday, November 5th during a brunch in the Founder's Room in Moffatt Dining Hall at 10:00 am. The inductees will later that afternoon be the honorary captains for the Fleet a the coin toss of the football game between Erskine and Emory & Henry which begins at 4 pm. Members of the Flying Fleet Hall of Fame Class of 2022 are Marlee Rhodes Dysart '15, Corin Hallman Havens '14, Atlee Pearson '11, Roberto De La Vina '14, Corey Sorrell '13, and Coach Alleen Hawkins.

Marlee Dysart '15 became the first female Fleet cross country runner to qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championships. The 2014 Conference Carolinas "Runner of the Year" became Erskine's first individual champion along with being named to the First Team All-Conference Team. Dysart was presented the 2015 Jake Todd Award as the top female student-athlete.

Corin Havens '14 is arguably the most distinguished Erskine women's tennis player in school history. The four-time Conference Carolinas 1st Team member led Erskine to a perfect 39-0 record in the conference as the Fleet won four straight conference titles. Havens earned "Freshman of the Year" and "Player of the Year" during her career while compiling a 35-3 singes mark in conference play and 36-1 record in doubles. Havens was also a four-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and was awarded the 2014 Jake Todd Award as Erskine's top female student-athlete.

Atlee Pearson '11 set school and national records as a closing pitcher for the Fleet baseball team. Pearson broke the NCAA Division II record for saves in a career with 33 while earning 20 wins in relief during his career. The sidewinder was named 1st Team NCAA Division II All-American in 2010. Pearson was awarded the 2011 Jake Todd recipient for top male student-athlete. Pearson played professionally in the San Diego Padres organization before returning to Erskine to serve as the Fleet pitching coach for three seasons.

Roberto De La Vina '14 was a four-year starter in goal for the Erskine men's soccer team. He led  the Fleet to the 2013 Conference Carolinas Regular Season Championship and tournament title game in 2013. De La Vina finished second in the NCAA Division II for saves in a season in 2013 as he earned Conference Carolinas 1st Team honors and Conference Carolinas "Defensive Player of the Year." De La Vina was named to the Conference Carolinas All-Academic Team four consecutive years. He was named the 2014 Jake Todd Award winner as the school's top male student-athlete.

Corey Sorrell '13 transferred to Erskine in 2011 and during his two-year career became one of the Fleet's most decorated players in the NCAA Division II era. Sorrell averaged 18.3 points per game and 5.7 rebounds as a junior while earning 2nd Team All-Conference Carolinas honors in 2011-12. In 2012-2013 Sorrell took his game to another level averaging 19.3 points per game. He was named 1st Team All-Conference Carolinas and became only the second Erskine player to be named to the NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region team leading the Fleet to an 18-10 record. Sorrell was named the 2013 Jake Todd Award winner as the school's top male athlete.
 
Alleen Hawkins has coached the Erskine Softball team for the past 20 seasons and has developed the Flying Fleet program into a perennial contender in the Conference Carolinas. After spending the previous five seasons as the inaugural softball head coach at the University of Georgia, Hawkins joined Erskine in January of 2001. Since 2008, the Fleet have finished in the top 5 in the conference in all but two seasons, and Erskine has won 2 Conference Carolinas Regular Season Titles (2019, 2021) and a Conference Carolinas Tournament Title (2011). In 2019, the Flying Fleet become a member in the NCCAA, and Hawkins led the Fleet to an NCCAA National Championship in their first season of membership. Hawkins has totaled over 900 wins in her collegiate coaching career.
