THE SERIES
Tuesday marked the first ever meeting between the teams.
THE MATCH
After allowing possession to be controlled by Bluefield State for the opening 15 minutes, Erskine grew into the match and began to impose its attacking will. In the 20th minute,
Mike De Zanger forced a turnover high up the field and played a through ball down the left side for
Clair Lewis to run onto. Lewis cut inside in front of the top of the box and ripped a right-footed shot into the left side of the goal that gave the Fleet a 1-0 lead. The Big Blue outshot Erskine 4 to 3 in the first half, but Erskine went into the break with a lead. The second half was full of Bluefield State possession, but the Fleet were solid defensively, limiting chances and shooting opportunities for the visitors. However, Bluefield State eventually broke through, scoring in the 82nd and 85th minutes as they escaped with a 2-1 comeback win.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine returns to conference play on the road this weekend against Chowan University (2-6-1, 2-2-1 CC) on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The Hawks beat Erskine 5-0 in Due West last season.
