THE MATCH
In the second of a three-match home stretch for the Fleet, it was the visitors who came flying out of the gates as Barton scored from the penalty spot inside the first two minutes of the match to take an early lead. Erskine settled in, and despite not having much possession, kept the scoreline at 1-0 and gave themselves a chance to get back into the game. The Fleet nearly drew level about halfway through the opening period on a low cross intended for
Kathryn Mobley. But, a Bulldogs defender just beat Mobley to the ball in the box and kept Erskine off the board. Seven first half saves from seniorÂ
Mady Fischer, though, meant the Fleet went into the halftime break trailing just 1-0. However, Barton continued to pile on pressure in the second half, scoring twice in a seven-minute stretch as Erskine was defeated 3-0.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Fleet conclude their home stretch on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference bout with Bluefield State University (2-5-2) at 3:00 p.m.
