DUE WEST, S.C. – The Erskine College women's soccer team (0-7-1, 0-4-1 CC) was defeated by Belmont Abbey College (3-3-2, 2-1-1 CC) by a score of 4-0 on Wednesday evening at Huggins Field.

THE MATCH
Erskine returned home a brief road trip for another difficult conference match against Belmont Abbey College. The Fleet were forced to defend for most of the game, but did so resiliently, fending off numerous Crusader chances. That, along with the help of the crossbar, kept the match scoreless past the half-hour mark. In about the 35th-minute, Erskine won back possession and set off on a counter attack, playing Emma Parris through on goal down the right wing. Parris raced past the Belmont Abbey defenders and got to the ball in front of the Crusaders' goalkeeper before Parris was taken out by her sliding challenge in the box. But, the play was deemed as incidental contact and the game continued without a foul. A few minutes later, Kaitlyn Briones headed home the opening goal that gave the Crusaders a halftime lead. Belmont Abbey dominated the second half, adding three more goals for a 4-0 win.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Fleet are back in action at home for Senior Day on Saturday afternoon against Barton College (2-3, 2-1 CC) at 2:00 p.m. The Bulldogs picked up a 2-0 win in Barton last season, but Erskine was 2-1 winners in 2018, the last meeting between the teams in Due West, on a pair of goals from Devyn Cabral.
