DUE WEST, S.C. – The Erskine College women's soccer team (0-1) began their 2022 season with a 2-0 loss against the University of South Carolina Aiken (1-0) on Saturday afternoon at Huggins Field in a match that was moved from Aiken to Due West due to poor field conditions.

THE SERIES
The Pacers have now won the previous two meetings between the teams, including 3-0 win in Aiken in 2018.
THE MATCH
Erskine was on the defensive from the early stages of the match, but held down the Pacers for the opening half hour until Megan Gettys eventually found a breakthrough for the visitors, giving them a halftime lead. The second half was also controlled by USC Aiken as they dominated possession, but found it difficult to break down the Fleet defense. Erskine held onto the 1-goal deficit and kept themselves in the match, but the Pacers pressure proved to be too much as a 69th-minute goal from Olivia Pall secured a 2-0 win for the visitors. Erskine goalkeeper
Kaylie Hayes made 7 saves in between the posts for the Fleet.
THE TEAM
Erskine was outshot 18 to 6 and USC Aiken had a 9 to 2 advantage in shots on target.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine will be back in action on Monday afternoon for their originally scheduled home opener as they take on Coker University (0-0-1) at 4:30 p.m. at Huggins Field. These teams have not met since the 2012 season when Coker defeated the Fleet, 2-0, in Hartsville, but Erskine won the previous six matchups.
