LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Erskine College baseball team (28-21, 17-13 CC) was defeated by the No.11 ranked NAIA team, Georgia Gwinnett College (36-12) by a score of 8-1 at the Grizzly Baseball Complex on Wednesday afternoon in the Fleet's 2022 regular season finale.

Wednesday marked the first official meeting between Erskine and Georgia Gwinnett.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The reigning NAIA National Champions, Georgia Gwinnett, threw the first punch of the afternoon with a two-run home run to take a second-inning lead. Erskine cut the deficit in half in the next half inning with an RBI groundout from
Armando Becerra to make it 2-1. But, the Grizzlies' pitching held the Fleet offense to just five base hits, all singles, and Georgia Gwinnett scored the final six runs of the game as the Fleet were defeated in their final game of the regular season, 8-1.

Armando Becerra was 1-for-4 at the plate and drove in Erskine's lone run of the game in the second inning.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Wednesday marked the final game of the regular season for the Fleet, as they will have this upcoming weekend off to prepare for the 2022 Conference Carolinas Tournament, starting next Wednesday, May 4. Currently, Erskine is the No. 4 seed in the field, but all other Conference Carolinas teams are scheduled to play games this weekend.
