HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Emmanuel 2-1 Erskine
In a game dominated by pitching, a combination of starter
Connor Harrison and reliever
Caleb Dix held the game scoreless through the first four innings. But, the Lions hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead and the Erskine offense was unable to find its stride for most of the early afternoon. In the seventh and final inning,
Cal Bocchino ripped a leadoff double and came around to score on a wild pitch, which cut the Fleet deficit half, but Erskine could not get any closer as Emmanuel stole Game 2, 2-1.
Game 2: Erskine 7-4 Emmanuel
The Fleet offense didn't come flying out of the gates in Game 2, but
Dalton Boyd got Erskine on the board with a one-out double before scoring the game's first run on a passed ball in the third inning. However, Emmanuel tied the game with a run in the third inning and scored twice in the fourth, taking a 3-1 lead. But, similar to the series opener on Friday, the Erskine offense roared to life in the middle innings. In the fifth inning, an RBI single from
Kyle Marti followed by an RBI groundout from
Armando Becerra tied the game at 3. Reliever
Josh Collett kept the game level through the sixth inning and set up a massive seventh inning for the Fleet. After
Dontae Wade drew a leadoff walk,
Chase Crouch picked a perfect time for his first big fly of the season, a go-ahead, two-run home run that put Erskine ahead 5-3. And the Fleet weren't done there. Becerra followed with an RBI single before an errant pick-off from a Lions pitcher allowed him to score and extend Erskine's lead to 4. The Lions had the tying run in the on-deck circle, but
Logan Spivey recorded the final out, sealing a 7-4 Erskine win in the rubber match of the series.
THE PLAYER
In a spot start in Game 3 of the series,
Chase Crouch reached base twice and had the biggest hit of the day, a go-ahead, two-run home run in the seventh inning of Erskine's 7-4 win.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine finishes the regular season on Tuesday afternoon at Augusta University (14-29, 6-19 PBC) at 3:00 p.m. The Jaguars powered their way to a 13-10 win in Due West 11 days ago.
