HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1: Erskine 4-3 North Greenville
North Greenville hit a two-out, solo home run in the top of the first inning to take an early lead, but the Fleet got the run right back thanks to a
Brooke Patterson RBI single in the bottom half. In the third inning, a hit by pitch and two singles loaded the bases for
Aly Salois and gave Erskine a chance to take its first lead. Salois delivered by drawing a walk to score
Kelci Brown and put the Fleet ahead, 2-1. But, the Crusaders hit another solo home run in the fourth inning to tie the game and regained the lead an inning later. Starting pitcher
Kaley Ingle kept NGU's lead to just one run as she put up a pair of scoreless innings and gave the Fleet a chance to tie or win it in the bottom of the seventh. After a couple of quick outs,
Sydney McInnis reached on an infield single to keep Erskine alive and get
Kyndall Chandler to the plate, representing the winning run. And the sophomore right fielder did the rest, a no-doubt home run that sailed over the right field fences as the Fleet walked off North Greenville in Game 1, 4-3.
GAME 2: Erskine 8-6 North Greenville
Each team scored in their first at-bat again in Game 2 as the hero from Game 1,
Kyndall Chandler, hit an RBI single to tie the game at 1. But, the Crusaders hit three home runs in the middle innings, including a pair of two-run homers in the top of the fifth to take a 6-1 lead. After a relatively slow start offensively in Game 2, the Erskine bats came surging to life in the bottom half of the fifth. A single, hit by pitch, and a walk loaded the bases with just one out and
Katie Hunter came off the bench to start the Fleet comeback with a pinch-hit, two-run double. Moments later,
Kelci Brown hit a run-scoring single to make it a 6-4 game. Hunter scored a few pitches later on a wild pitch before Chandler added to her huge day at the plate with an RBI single as the Fleet came all the way back to tie the game at 6. But, Erskine wasn't done there.
Brooke Patterson jumped all over the first pitch she saw and crushed a two-run home run over the left center field fence, capping a seven-run inning for the Fleet and giving them an 8-6 lead.
Breanna Minton came on in relief of the Erskine starter in the top of the fifth and recorded the final seven outs of the game as she earned her first collegiate win and sealed a doubleheader sweep for the Fleet with an 8-6 win in Game 2.
THE PLAYER
Kyndall Chandler launched a walk-off two-run in Erskine's Game 1 victory before adding a pair of RBI singles in the Fleet's win in Game 2.
