HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1: Erskine 5-2 Southern Wesleyan
After a solo home run in the first inning gave SWU an early 1-0 lead, the Erskine offense broke through on a two-run home run from
Brooke Patterson to give the Fleet a 2-1 lead after three innings. The Warriors tied the game with a run in the fourth inning, but the Fleet slugged their way back in front thanks to a two-run big fly from
Peyton Rabon to put Erskine back on top 4-2 in the next half inning.
Kyndall Chandler added an RBI single in the seventh and that was more than enough for Erskine starter
Kaley Ingle, who went the distance, earning her eighth victory of the year, while striking out 12 batters with no walks.
GAME 2:Â Southern Wesleyan 6-3 Erskine
SWU launched a solo home run in the first inning again in Game 2 of the doubleheader as they took another early 1-0 lead. Fleet starter
Kali Morton settled in through the middle innings, but the Erskine offense was held in check. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Southern Wesleyan added to its lead, scoring three runs to go in front, 4-0. But, the Fleet responded in the next half inning as a two-run double from
Kyndall Chandler cut the deficit in half.
Brooke Patterson added a sacrifice fly moments later and the SWU lead was back to just one run, 4-3. But, the Warriors scored a pair of insurance runs in their half of the sixth, winning the back half of the doubleheader, 6-3.
THE PLAYER
Kyndall Chandler went 3-for-5 at the plate on the day and tallied run-scoring hits in both games. The sophomore right fielder hit a seventh-inning RBI single in Game 1 before getting the Fleet on the board with a two-run double in the sixth inning of Game 2.
