DUE WEST, S.C. – The Erskine College Cheerleading & Dance programs named Mackenzie Elgin as their next Cheerleading head coach and promoted Carly Rogers as the next Dance head coach, announced by Erskine Vice-President for Athletics, Mark Peeler, earlier this week.
Elgin, a recent Anderson University alum, spent all four years as a member of the Trojans' cheerleading team, including being named Senior Captain in her final year.
"We are pleased to have Mackenzie take on this challenge of leading the cheerleading program, and I look forward to seeing where Mackenzie will now pick up and take this squad over the coming years," Peeler said.
Elgin attended Palmetto High School, in Williamston, S.C., and was a four-year member of the varsity cheer team, where she helped lead Palmetto High to a 2016 South Carolina Competitive State Champion as a Senior Captain of the team.
"I am so excited to be joining the Erskine family. I cannot wait to see all the accomplishments that the Erskine cheerleading team is going to make!" Elgin said.
Rogers, who joined as an assistant in September 2021Â will take charge of the Erskine Dance Team.
"We are thankful to Corbin Huntley for all of her efforts in starting the program from scratch, and I am also extremely grateful to the extra work assistant coach, Carly Rogers, took on over the last month to provide stability. I think we have strong leadership in place for our cheerleading program moving forward," Peeler said.
Rogers is a Newberry College alum, who has been working for Carolina Xtreme Cheer & Dance since 2017, where she runs all aspects of dance studio operations while assisting the owner in daily business operations to ensure efficiency of all running operations as well as choreographing routines and teaching techniques for girls aged 4 to 19. Rogers is also one of the Athletic Recruitment Coordinators for Erskine.
"I am super excited to have to opportunity to work with the Erskine College Golden Girls! I cannot wait to be a mentor for this team in life, faith, and in dance. Our program is more than just a team, we are a family, and I am so proud to be a part of the Erskine community," Rogers said.
