HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Mars Hill began the game with a 6-minute drive, marching down the field and scoring the game's first touchdown. On their next drive, the Lions kicked a field a goal and led 10-0 after the first quarter.
Second Quarter:
Following a slow start to the game, the Fleet settled and made it a one-possession game on a
Trevarus Walker 22-yard touchdown after the Fleet got tremendous starting field position on their first drive of the quarter. However, the Lions responded with a touchdown of their own on the ensuing drive, making it a 17-6 game. MHU added another score later in the quarter, but Erskine blocked a field goal in the final seconds of the half, trailing 24-6.
Third Quarter:
Carter Vest recovered a fumble halfway through the third quarter, but the period belonged to Mars Hill, who opened up a commanding 33-6 lead heading into the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
Caleb Gleason picked off the Mars Hill QB on their first drive of the fourth quarter, and then the Erskine defense forced another turnover, as
Joshua Kamoto recovered a fumble. The Fleet took advantage of the second takeaway, with a 55-yard catch and run from
Bryce Jeffcoat to
Floyd Lyles. But, that would be all for the Fleet, as Mars Hill earned a 33-13 win.
