Erskine Football | Fleet fall in road battle with Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Erskine College football team (2-5, 0-5 SAC) was defeated by Carson-Newman University (3-4, 2-3 SAC) by a score of 37-0 at Burke-Tarr Stadium on Saturday evening.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • Both teams struggled in their passing attacks with Carson-Newman and Erskine passing for 77 and 41 yards, respectively.
  • 12 different Carson-Newman players recorded a carry as the Eagles totaled 304 rushing yards.
  • Bryce Jeffcoat and Kevon Catoe each averaged more than 5 yards per carry for the Fleet.
  • Four different Erskine players totaled 8 tackles, while Jeremiah Jennings also added an interception.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Both offenses started the night slow, but Carson-Newman went on a nine-play drive that ended with a touchdown on fourth down to give them a 7-0 lead just past the halfway point of the first quarter.

Second Quarter:
A few drives later, the Eagles took advantage of a short field with a field goal to extend their lead to 10-0. Jeremiah Jennings picked off the Carson-Newman quarterback late in the quarter, but the Eagles defense got a stop and added a field goal just before the half, taking a 13-0 lead into the break.

Third Quarter:
Carson-Newman scored touchdowns on each of its first two drives of the second half, all but ending any chance of a Fleet comeback and leading 27-0.

Fourth Quarter:
The Eagles added 10 more points in the first few minutes of the fourth quarter as they defeated Erskine, 37-0.

Erskine continues conference play back at home to take on UVA Wise (1-6, 0-5 SAC) next Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at J.W. Babb Stadium.
