MARS HILL, N.C. – The Erskine College women's soccer team (0-2-0) was defeated by Mars Hill University (1-1-0) by a score of 1-0 at Meares Stadium on Wednesday night.

THE SERIES
The Lions now lead the all time series 6-1-1 and have won all five meetings in North Carolina between the teams.

THE MATCH
Neither team created a bunch of chances in the first half, but Erskine outshot the Lions five to three in the first half and tested the Mars Hill goal on numerous occasions. The Fleet totaled four shots on the hosts' net in the opening 45 minutes, but all were saved by the Lions' goalkeeper to keep the match scoreless heading into the halftime break. The Lions made adjustments at the half and dominated the match before eventually finding a breakthrough in the 84th minute when Sanne Martinsen scored the lone goal of the evening as the Fleet dropped their first road bout of the 2021 fall season, 1-0, at Mars Hill.

THE TEAM
Mars Hill outshot Erskine 12 to six overall and both sides tallied five shots on target. The Lions outshot the Fleet nine to one in the second half.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Fleet continue their short road stretch on Saturday, September 11, when they begin Conference Carolinas play at UNC Pembroke (0-1) at 2:00 p.m. This will be the Fleet's first ever match against the conference newcomer Braves.
