PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Erskine College women's soccer team (0-3-0) began Conference Carolinas play with a 6-0 defeat at UNC Pembroke (1-2-0) at Lumbee River EMC on Saturday afternoon. The preseason conference champion Braves opened the scoring in the eighth minute and never looked back for their first win of the season.

THE SERIES
Conference newcomer UNC Pembroke took a 1-0 all-time lead against the Fleet with a 6-0 win on Saturday in the teams' first ever meeting.
THE MATCH
UNC Pembroke's Anna Grossheim fired the hosts in front with an eighth minute goal before Alexis Pittman doubled the Braves' lead in the 31st minute as UNC Pembroke outshot Erskine 10 to three in a first half where the Braves had total control. The second half was more of the same as UNC Pembroke tallied 18 more shots on goals with Ilaya Bigford's 57th minute strike making it a 3-0 game and the Braves scored three more in a five-minute stretch late as the Fleet were defeated 6-0 in their fall 2021 Conference Carolinas opener.
THE TEAM
UNC Pembroke outshot Erskine 28 to six overall and both 12 to three in shots on target. The Braves had 13 of the game's 14 corner kicks.Â

WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine returns home on Saturday, September 18 and with their final non-conference match of the season as they take on Bluefield State College (1-2) at 2:00 p.m. at Huggins Field. The Fleet and Big Blue have never met in a regular season matchup.
