Erskine Women's Soccer | Fleet Fall Despite Gibbs' 2 Goals

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Erskine College women's soccer team (0-6, 0-4 CC) continued Conference Carolinas play with a 3-2 home loss to Converse University (2-5-2, 2-2 CC).  Reagan Gibbs scored 2 big goals for the Fleet, both from outside the box to spark energy into the Fleet and give us one of the most exciting matches of the year.

THE MATCH
In this Conference Carolinas matchup, the Fleet looked to take on the visiting Converse University Valkyries in what proved to be one of the most exciting matches of soccer this year.  The Valkyries found holes in the Fleet defense early and after a deep shot by Kiersten Schrawyer ricocheted off of the Fleet for an own goal, the Valkyries again sliced through to score 2 goals in less than 2 minutes.  The Fleet found themselves down 2-0 for most of the first half, until on an absolute bomb from close to 40 yards placed squarely in the right upper 90, Reagan Gibbs gave the Fleet life.  The first half ended with the Fleet down 2-1, but neither team was done.  Just over 13 minutes into the second half, Reagan Gibbs came back with another shot from the middle of the field, and just outside the box. The ball passed right over the keeper's outstretched arms and landed in the back of the net, locking the match at 2 goals a piece.  The Valkyries then responded with another goal of their own in the 64th minute, that ended up sealing the match and handing the Fleet their 6th loss of the season.

THE TEAM
Erskine out shot Converse 9-3 for the match, but the Valkyries made their attempts count, going 3-3.
