THE SERIES
The Fleet have won five of the past seven games against the Trojans since the 2017-18 season.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1:Â Pitching was the story through the first half of game one as both teams combined for a total 14 strikeouts through the first three and a half innings. The Fleet struck first in the fourth inning when
Sydney McInnis reached via a walk and then stole second.
Shi Cain traded places with her as she doubled to left field. The Trojans plated two in the sixth off an RBI single and a sacrifice fly, leaving the Fleet just six outs to work with. In the seventh, the Fleet went to work. A lead off fly out to center field by
Haley Knox brought up
Kelci Brown who drew a walk. Brown reached third off
Sydney McInnis' double. The duo was brought in when
Shi Cain hit her fourth home run of the season to right center field, giving the Fleet the 4-2 walk-off game one victory. Erskine ace,
Hannah Houge (10-1) threw a complete game, striking out 12 in her win.
GAME 2: The Fleet scored the first of two game two runs in the bottom of the first.
Kelci Brown connected for a leadoff single and found herself on third after consecutive stolen bags. Brown scored off a passed ball which gave the Fleet an early lead. The game remained 1-0 until the sixth when the Trojans tied it up. A solo home run to left center eventually forced the game into extra innings. After back to back strikeouts and a lineout to third in the top of the eighth, the Fleet had their chance.
Katie Spires was placed on second and reached third off a groundout.
Sydney McInnis brought in Spires with a single up the middle for the Fleet's second walk-off in as many games.
Hannah Houge (11-1) tossed another complete game, collecting nine strikeouts in game two.
