THE SERIES
The Fleet have never lost to the Valkyries in 10 all-time meetings since the series started during the 2016 season.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1:Â The Fleet went down in order in both the first and third innings but Erskine ace
Hannah Houge held the Valkyries in check through the first three frames. The Fleet got their day started, however, in the fourth when
Sydney McInnis led the inning off with a single. McInnis as well as
Katie Spires and
Parker Birch would score in the inning to give the Fleet a 3-0 lead. Converse tapped back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, but the Fleet maintained their three-run lead by putting two runs past home on the fifth. With a 5-2 lead heading into the seventh inning, the Fleet bats exploded for an eight run seventh inning. The Fleet were mostly guided by small ball as they connected for two RBI singles and three walks in the seventh.
Katie Hunter hit a two-run shot to left center while
Ellison Garren brought in two with a double down the left field line.
GAME 2:Â The Fleet got on the board quickly, scoring two runs in the first off a sacrifice fly from
Shi Cain and an RBI single for
Kyndall Chandler. Cain brought in another run when she singled in the second to give the Fleet a 3-0 lead. The Fleet doubled their lead with a pair of runs in the fifth and one more in the seventh before the Valkyries tested Houge in game two. Converse got two back in the seventh, but that was it as the Fleet held on for the sweep. Houge tossed yet another complete game, this time sitting down nine on strikes.
Â
THE PLAYER
GAME 1: Hannah Houge improved to 13-1 on the year as she tossed all seven innings allowing two earned runs while fanning 12.
Â
GAME 2:Â
Shi Cain went 2-for-4, with two RBIs, a sacrifice fly and an RBI single.
Â
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Fleet remain on the road, but do not play a weekend series as they take on North Greenville University (16-8, 4-4 CC) next Tuesday, March 30 at 2 p.m.
