THE SERIES
Belmont Abbey has a 33-28 advantage over the Fleet in the all-time series, and the Crusaders have now won 14 of the past 18 meetings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1: Belmont Abbey exploded for six runs in the first two innings and broke the game wide open with a six-spot in the fourth inning to take a 12-0 lead. Erskine got on the board with two-run home run from
Livan Reinoso in the sixth inning, but it was too little, too late for the Fleet as they dropped the first game of the doubleheader 12-3.
Â
GAME 2:Â The Crusaders again scored early in Game 2 and led 3-0 after the first two innings. Reinoso again opened the scoring for the Fleet with an RBI single in the third and a
Dalton Reeves solo home run in the next inning got Erskine back within a run. But Belmont Abbey answered with a pair of runs in the fifth and led 5-2 at the halfway point of the fourth and final game of the series. Both bullpens settled in until the Crusaders got some insurance with a three-run top of the ninth inning. The Fleet did not go quietly as
Trevor Lesane had a run-scoring single in the bottom half of the inning, and Erskine had two runners on, but a groundout ended the Fleet's hopes as Belmont Abbey won Game 2, 8-3.
THE PLAYER
GAME 1:Â Livan Reinoso was 2-for-4 including a two-run blast in the sixth inning.
GAME 2:Â
Trevor Lesane was 2-for-3 with a run-scoring single and was the only Fleet player with a multi-hit game. Lesane also had a multi-hit performance in Game 1 of the series on Friday.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine continues a very busy week of conference play with a doubleheader on Wednesday at Barton College (8-9, 7-5 CC) at 3:30 p.m. These are makeup games after rain postponed the first two games of the Barton series back in late February. Erskine won both games against the Bulldogs the following day, including a 23-8 rout in Game 2.
