THE SERIES
The Fleet extended their winning streak to four consecutive over the Lions with the sweep this afternoon. Erskine leads 4-2 all-time having not played Mars Hill since the 2015-16 season prior to today.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1:Â Both teams scored a run in the first inning. Erskine's
Parker Birch connected for a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in
Kelci Brown. The Fleet added their final three runs of the game in the bottom of the second. A leadoff single by
Kyndall Chandler and a
Taylor Antley walk set up runners on first and second. A double steal left both runners in scoring position before a
Faith Belue single gave the Fleet the lead. Another sacrifice fly, this time by
Katie Hunter, plated the second run of the inning before Belue touched home off the wild pitch. The game remained 4-1 until the top of the sixth inning when a solo home run to right field off the bat of Maggie Langheim which was the final run of the game for either team.
Â
GAME 2: After the Fleet took an early 1-0 lead in the first, the Lions responded by plating three runs in the top of the third.
Shi Cain's home run in the bottom half of the third, put Erskine behind just 3-2 before a
Faith Belue single in the fourth tied the game.
Katie Hunter then brought in Belue with a single allowing the Fleet to secure the 4-3 victory.
Â
THE PLAYER
GAME 1: Hannah Houge (1-0) pitched a complete game while fanning 12 Lions batters. Houge allowed just four hits and two earned runs.
Â
GAME 2:Â
Shi Cain went 1-for-3 which included a solo home run in the third inning. Cain connected for a team-high three long balls last season.
