THE SERIES
Erskine leads all-time series 34-19, but the Crusaders have won six of the last eight meetings between the teams.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1: The Erskine offense came out the gates reared up after yesterday's rainout.
Cody Forster ripped an 0-2 single into left field to lead off the game, and
Livan Reinoso followed with a towering two-run home run to give the Fleet an early 2-0 lead. Erskine starter
Zach Overholt put up zeroes in each of his first four innings, before a Crusaders' home run in the fifth cut the deficit in half. The Fleet got the run back in the top of the seventh as Forster's sacrifice fly scored Cal Bochino to give Erskine much-needed insurance. "A really good job with two strikes to have a productive at-bat and give us a run when we needed it," head coach
Mark Crocco said. North Greenville led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run, but Overholt slammed the door, stranding the tying run at second base to give the Fleet a 3-2 win.
GAME 2: North Greenville scored in each of the first two innings of Game 2 and added two more runs in the fifth inning to take 5-0 lead. The Fleet got on the board in the sixth inning with a
Tariq Bacon two-run home run to left field to make it a 5-2 lead, but the Crusaders got both runs back in the seventh inning on their way to a 7-2 win in Game 2.
THE PLAYER
GAME 1:Â Erskine starter
Zach Overholt went the distance for the Fleet, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out six batters. Overholt earned a win in his first collegiate start with a complete game performance in Game 1.
"Zach [Overholt] had one of the most competitive performances I've seen today. He gave everything he had and today is really a testament to his character and work ethic," Crocco said.
GAME 2:
Tariq Bacon provided the sole offense for the Fleet out of the nine-hole with a two-run home run in the sixth inning.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Fleet have two days off before they wrap up their unique four-game series at North Greenville with a doubleheader Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
