THE SERIES
Limestone now leads the all-time series 11-7 and the Saints have won six straight meetings. Erskine's last win over the Saints was back in February 2018.Â
THE MATCH
Set 1:Â Following a somewhat slow start to the match, Erskine heated up, and following a pair of kills from
Edgerrin Austin, led 13-11 in the opening set. But, the visiting Saints rattled off nine straight points and never looked back to take a 25-18 victory in Set 1.
Â
Set 2:Â The Fleet started Set 2 strong as an Austin kill and a
Tome Filkov ace gave Erskine an early 2-0 lead. The beginning of the second set was closely fought until Limestone went on a 5-0 run to take a 14-10 lead in the set. Erskine scored the next three points including a
Jon Fuller kill to get within a point, but the Fleet never caught the Saints following the Limestone run and Erskine dropped Set 2 by a score of 20-25.
Â
Set 3: Erskine trailed Set 3 for most of the early stages, but aces from Fuller and Austin gave the Fleet a 10-9 lead. Limestone won the ensuing three points to take a 12-10 lead. The Fleet recovered in the middle stages of the set and a
Kacper Rybarczyk kill was part of a mini 3-0 run for Erskine to tie Set 3 at 16 apiece. The Fleet could not get the lead and Limestone pulled away late. With a 24-20 lead, and four match points incoming, Fuller and Filkov tallied kills to keep Erskine alive but it was not enough as Limestone won Set 3 25-20 to finish off a three set sweep.
Â
