Erskine Women's Soccer | Fleet cruise past Allen

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Erskine College women's soccer team (2-13, 1-11 CC) defeated Allen University (0-8) by a score of 21-0 on Monday evening at Huggins Field.

THE SERIES
Monday marked the first ever meeting between the Fleet and Yellow Jackets.

THE MATCH
Vivian Gonzalez and Brianna Raffa gave the Fleet an early lead, each scoring a goal inside the first 10 minutes. Gonzalez, Brittiney Gardner, and Raffa all found the back of the net in a span of 47 seconds to extend the Fleet lead to 5-0 in the opening quarter of an hour. Alexa Barrios scored in the 16th minute to add another goal to the tally for Erskine. Jane Ashley Meredith slotted home a goal before Lauren Mullen and Anika Scherer scored 61 seconds apart from each other to make it a 9-0 game. Mullen found the back of the net again minutes later and first-half goals from Katelyn Williams and Ashlyn Stroud gave Erskine a 12-0 lead at the halftime break. Reagan Gibbs scored twice in four minutes early in the second half, with her goals coming in between a strike from Amanda Johnston. Becky Matthews, Stroud, Melanie Mercelita, Izzy Ray all scored in the second half, which was capped by a brace from Calley Vick to finish off a 21-0 win for Erskine.

THE PLAYER
Reagan Gibbs scored a pair of goals and had a team-high eight shots in 28 minutes of action.

THE TEAM
Erskine outshot Allen 52 to two and had a 35 to one advantage in shots on target.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Fleet close out their fall 2021 regular season on Tuesday afternoon at home against Bob Jones University (17-1) out of the NCCAA. Erskine won the only previous meeting between the teams back in October 2019, 2-1, on a 90th-minute winner from Katie Cauble assisted by Julia Cesta.
